The Door To Time-Chapter 1

This week I started reading a new book called "The Door To Time" written by "Ulysses Moore." The first chapter was about a couple, Mr. and Mrs. Covenant who bought a new house near a sea and they came to see it. They like this house very much because is very beautiful and close to the sea, and they knew that their twin children, Jason and Julia, will like it too. This house is called Argo Manor. The caretaker of the house,Mr. Nestor, told them that the former owner was a strange person so there are a lot of strange things in the house. For example, there is a black door that looked brunt in some places and also had deep gashes. This door was lock and no one could open it.

While I read this chapter, I used three reading strategies to helped me understand and remember the story better. First, I used dictionary to help me with the words in the story that I did not know. Second, I read the story slowly to make sure that I understand the story. Lastly, I tried to imagine the story when I read to help me remember the things and details that happen in the story.

I predict that in the next chapter, the Covenant family will move to this house and the twin children will like this house very much. After they see this strange door, they will find the way to open it.

When I read the sentences “there is a black door that looked brunt in some places” and this door was also locked, it make me feel a bit afraid of the door and also it makes me want to read more and makes me want to know more that what will be happen in the next chapter.

How did you feel when you read that there was a mysterious room that couldn't be opened? You should tell what you think is behind the door. When you use reading strategies, give examples. For example, tell a word you looked up.
